NewsOpportunity Bank volunteers participate in another Local Community Day
On September 30, Opportunity Bank Serbia marked another Local Community Day, a day when we try to give something back to one of the rural communities where our clients live. This year, we chose the village Šljivova near Krupanj, the youngest village in Serbia according to average age of its 800 inhabitants. Fruit growing is the main activity in Šljivova, as well as cattle farming, but it is interesting to note that every second household grows raspberries, which are always in high demand. All this agricultural potential is probably the reason why young people stay here instead of fleeing to cities as most people their age do.
OBS made a donation worth about EUR 4,500 to the village primary school, so it now has a secure fence around the school building. This school also has a class of preschoolers, so we have renewed their playfield with some brand new equipment and installed new professional basketball hoop stand for the older children, branded with OBS logo. As always, about 30 OBS volunteers have joined this action to make the school in Šljivova a nicer place for all its pupils, and spent a wonderful day painting the fence, helping install the basketball stand and planting about 30 trees in memory of this event, which signifies OBS Mission and Values.
